Luft Christmas Window

This year I got the opportunity to make some decorative birds for the
amazing Christmas window display at Luft.
I created three new bird patterns especially for the project and sewed up 21 birds in beautiful red and white marimekko fabric.
When they were installed in the window with a big hanging branch and lovely baubles the effect was amazing. It was easily the most stylish Christmas window I've seen!

Poppet Party!

Yay, last night was the 2 year anniversary/Christmas party at my shop poppet.
Despite my nerves at hosting such an event I think everything went a-ok!
The change rooms were bustling with activity as everyone tried on their favourite items.
(how cute is the above photo....happy smiling customers makes my heart swoon)

Everyone seemed to enjoy the sangria and pimms served up by the lovely lorna and serita.
And the snack table was well worked over, my favourite was bo-peeps home-made hommus,
and as expected the honey-joys were a big hit.

There was a lovely turnout of friends, regular customers, and new faces.
It was wonderful that some of Melbournes finest bloggers could come.
Esme and the laneway, Bo-peeps adventures and Susan of Spin-Spin.....
it was great to see you all again.
and I also got to meet the delightful Lady Melbourne, Super Kawaii Mama and Vintage Verve.
Thanks to all for coming and sharing this special occasion with me.

In all the flurry and excitement of the evening its natural that I forgot something.

The Best Dressed Award
and the winner is........

The charming Katie! (left)

There are 3 reasons she stole the show
1. It takes a special kinda lady to rock the nautical theme so very completely.
2. Her entire outfit (minus the shoes) was purchased from me...so we know she has taste :)
3. The look wasn't complete until she rifled through the dress-up draw and put on her favourite wig.....and if that's not a sign of a great ensemble then what is???
(the next time you pop in you'll get a bottle of delicious wine, yay)

Thanks again to all who attended and helped out. I hope you all had fun!

That's one classy customer!

This is Carmel. She is the classiest, most well dressed person I know.
Ever since the first time she came into the shop she has been constantly impressing me with her vast and well put together wardrobe.
Her heart lies with the amazing tailoring and silhouettes of the 50's and early 60's,
and boy does she know how to work a wiggle dress!

One of my favourite things is buying stock for specific customers, and because Carmel has been a loyal customer for nearly 2 years I find it quite easy to know what pieces she will like.
The other week when I was sourcing new stock I came across a lovely bright orange 60's crimplene dress and day coat 2 piece. I knew she would love it and it would look great on her so I kept it out the back for the next time she popped in.
But....low and behold the next time she popped in she was wearing a nearly identical item to the one i picked out for her....we had a good laugh and couldn't believe the odds.
But as the old saying goes
"a classy lady can never have too many orange 60's crimplene dress and day coat combo's"
so she happily snapped it up :)

Craft Hatch

Last Saturday I had a stall at the craft hatch market at the city library. It was a lovely day, and a great chance to show off my work in a different setting to the shop. I also met some wonderful crafters and was very impressed with the range and quality of work there.
Here's a few pictures of the items I had for sale. Some of these are still available, so come visit me at Poppet (123 Scotchmer St. Fitzroy North) if you're keen.

Handmade stuffed penguin toys $24

Cameo Necklaces $30

Bunnies $26

Button Bobby Pins $12

Pretty Deer $45

The library was a lovely setting for the market, and I was lucky enough to get the best table next to a huge window overlooking degraves st. So there was lots to look at when things slowed down.
Big thanks to Amy and Katie for visiting and keeping me entertained (boredom was starting to set in toward the end of the day! )

Also...have a look at the beautiful work by Susan of Spin Spin Handmade.
She screen prints her own fabric in great designs then sews it up to make tea-towles and adorable elephant toys. Too cute :)

Poppet - Vintage Fashion and Craft - Now on the Intratubes!

For as long as I can remember, I have always left the first page blank in any note-book or journal I have started. It's because I think the opening page should perfectly sum-up what I'm doing, so I leave it blank until that day comes when inspiration strikes. To this day, inspiration has never struck, and I'm left with an ever growing number of blank pages that desperatly want filling.

This is the problem I've been having for the last few days. I thought everyday of procrastination was leading me to a genius moment when I would know exactly what to write for my first posting. But alas, there has been no brainwave.

So here it is......The first post :)

Hello, My name is Jules and I love all things crafty and vintage. I have a little shop called Poppet in Fitzroy North, Melbourne. I sell (and keep for my naughty self) lots of lovely vintage and retro clothing and accessories. I also spend my days sewing clothes, making toys and jewellery and doing all sorts of craft.

So stay tuned for lots of pictures of lovely vintage finds, fashion inspiration and wardrobe stylings. There will also be craft projects in the making, finished items, tutorials and how-to's. I will post shop announcements and pictures of new vintage stock and craft items for your perusal. Thanks for reading!
